Undergraduate minor
Key points: Comprehensive, upstream or downstream specialization, cGMP experience
The undergraduate minor helps NC State students acquire knowledge that supports their major and adds breadth to their education. Students receive a comprehensive understanding of drug manufacturing and the fundamental skills needed to support the industry. A key component of the minor is its focus on learning current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), which regulate the biomanufacturing industry. BTEC's undergraduate minor in biomanufacturing is known for preparing well-qualified employees and helps students start their career in the field quickly after graduating. The minor is 15 credit hours and can be easily added to various majors with little to no extra coursework.
Undergraduate certificate
Key points: Flexibility, create your own specialization
The undergraduate certificate is a great option for students who want an overview of biomanufacturing and the flexibility to choose courses based on their interests and career goals. The certificate allows more course options, providing students with the opportunity to explore additional areas beyond what is offered in the minor. The certificate is 12 credit hours and is transcript recognized.
Accelerated bachelor's to master's degree
Key points: Master's degree with only one additional year, upstream and downstream specialization, cGMP, advanced topics
Competitive students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and enrolled in the undergraduate minor in biomanufacturing may qualify to complete the Master of Science in Biomanufacturing with just one additional year of study. The master's level coursework provides in-depth knowledge of biomanufacturing processes, cell-line development, analytical tools, and statistics. In addition, students are required to complete an industry practicum. This program is a good fit for students who want to specialize in biomanufacturing and seek the opportunity to advance in the field.
