BTEC Room 135
Open to the public
Saly Romero-Torres, Ph.D.
Senior Manager of Advanced Data Analytics, Biogen; BTEC Teaching Fellow;
with Kaschif Ahmed, Senior APC Engineer at Biogen; Jun Ren, Senior Data Scientist at Biogen; and Janae McFadden, AI Engineer at Biogen
Join BIogen's Saly Romero-Torres and colleagues for several brief presentations and a panel discussion of the competencies that could help individuals start a career in biopharmaceutical data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). Brief presentations, listed below, will be followed by a panel discussion with the audience.
In the past 20 years, automated data analytics and AI applications have dramatically changed the fabric of our economy and society. The way that we interact with machines and computers has evolved from purely mechanical ways to more intelligent and interactive approaches (marketing strategy personalization, electronic personal assistants, etc.). Given the benefits of adopting advanced computational and decision-making approaches, data analytics and AI have also been gaining attention in the biopharmaceutical industry. In this seminar, short presentations will address these topics:
- Hybrid Model Identification for Monoclonal Antibody Production Bioreactor- A Digital Twin
by Kaschif Ahmed, Senior APC Engineer at Biogen
- Application of a KNN-based Similarity Method to Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing
Jun Ren, Senior Data Scientist at Biogen
- Artificial Intelligence for Systematic Process and Asset Recovery
Janae McFadden, AI Engineer at Biogen
Saly Romero-Torres is a senior manager of Advanced Data Analytics at Biogen, where she leads a team of mathematicians, statisticians and engineers. She has over 15 years of experience in the field of Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) and advanced manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals with a focus on the use of advanced sensors, advanced process control, data analytics, machine learning and operational excellence tools. She obtained a doctorate in pharmaceutical PAT from Purdue University in 2006 and has worked for companies such as Schering Plough, Wyeth, and Pfizer. In 2014, Dr. Romero-Torres founded Bio-Hyperplane LLC, a data analytics and consulting company. At Bio-Hyperplane LLC, Romero-Torres worked with a broad portfolio of industries including biopharma, automation software (semiconductors), data analytics software and instruments. Her personal mission is advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing processes to enhance plant operations and, more importantly, improving patients’ access to critical therapies.
