Mr. Rick Lawless is the Director of Industry Programs at BTEC. In addition to establishing and maintaining partnerships meant to grow and enhance BTEC’s capacity and capabilities, he is responsible for courses focused on quality systems and regulatory affairs relevant to the production of biological drug products. Mr. Lawless has more than 20 years of industry experience with companies such as Eastman Kodak, Johnson & Johnson, and Wyeth. He managed various GMP production units that manufactured clinical diagnostic products and vaccines.
Mr. Lawless joined NC State University in 2006 to help start up the BTEC facility and its educational programs. He developed curriculum for various fermentation courses for university students, industry employees, and government regulators. He also developed BEC 475/575, Global Regulatory Affairs for Medical Products, to help students understand and apply quality systems that meet or exceed regulatory expectations.
Mr. Lawless received a B.S. in microbiology and a B.S.E. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also obtained an MBA from State University of New York at Buffalo. He received Certified Pharmaceutical Industry Professional (CPIP) credentials in 2013.
