Laurie Overton
Laurie Overton is a Senior Scientist at BTEC. She is responsible for teaching upstream bioprocessing courses to NC State students and industry professionals and managing BTEC’s cell culture lab to support classes and bioprocessing service projects. Prior to joining BTEC, she directed large-scale production of recombinant proteins and antibodies (expressed in bacteria, yeast, insect, and mammalian cells) at GlaxoSmithKline. During her 25-year career, she gained extensive hands-on process development experience with cell culture scale up in stainless steel vessels and single-use bioreactors. She also had strategic oversight for global biological reagent banking, inventory, and supply. Ms. Overton earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Hope College and a Master of Science in genetics from Illinois State University.
