Job seekers, employers turn out for BTEC Career Fair

Students meet with industry representatives at the 2016 ISPE Career Fair at BTEC.

With hopes of securing an internship or full-time position, nearly 200 BTEC graduate and undergraduate students filled the building’s lobby and halls Friday, Feb. 26. Twelve employers, representing regional, national and international firms, were represented by 50 industry professionals who met with interested students. The event, which was restricted to BTEC students, featured companies with an important presence in the North Carolina biopharmaceutical and biomanufacturing industries. The majority of participating companies were seeking candidates for internships, full-time positions or both. Firms represented included Biogen, CAI, GlaxoSmithKline, Grifols, IPS, NNE PharmaPlan, Novo Nordisk, Novozymes, Patheon, Pfizer, Seqirus, and Specline Consulting.

Many firms return to the career fair each year due to the hands-on experience and skills BTEC students gain in the facility’s industry-scale simulated-cGMP laboratories. At the undergraduate level, BTEC offers a minor that can be taken by students majoring in the life sciences, engineering, or related disciplines. As a result, BTEC students have a wide variety of backgrounds, which companies often find beneficial.
