BTEC has the facilities, process and analytical equipment, and experienced staff to conduct process development, technology development and testing service projects.

BTEC’s upstream biomanufacturing equipment includes bioreactors ranging from 2-L to 300-L scale, which can accommodate both fermentation and cell culture projects. This includes disposable bioreactor systems, for cell culture applications, with volumes ranging from 10-L to 250-L. BTEC also has the equipment required for subsequent protein recovery and purification steps, including high pressure homogenizers, centrifuges, chromatography systems, and tangential flow filtration systems, all in sizes that can accommodate bench-scale and pilot scale studies. BTEC’s analytical capabilities range from HPLC, multi-mode plate reader, SDS-PAGE, capillary electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF, and quantitative PCR to genetic analysis. Typical tests performed include ELISAs, Western blots, protein quantity and purity, protein fingerprinting, spectral characterization, MW determinations, host cell DNA contamination and microbial identification. The staff who support these projects have industrial experience in many aspects of biomanufacturing, including cGMP Fermentation, Cell Culture, and Downstream Operations; Upstream and Downstream Process Development; and Analytical Development. Further, students can be hired to participate in project execution. Student participation benefits our clients by giving them exposure to potential job candidates and gives BTEC another approach in meeting our primary mission to develop the most well-trained, industry-focused workforce in the world.
