BTEC to collaborate with Brazil's Federal University of Pernambuco

Published Nov. 6, 2014

NC State and the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Recife, Brazil, recently finalized a memorandum of understanding. Under the terms of the agreement, BTEC will collaborate with UFPE’s postgraduate program in therapeutic innovation. The five-year agreement, which is renewable, will foster academic exchanges related to the manufacturing of biological products. These exchanges may include faculty, technical staff, scholars and students, as well as educational and extension materials related to the areas of collaboration.

UFPE and the state of Pernambuco are striving to develop the region as a major hub for pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing. As part of these economic development efforts, UFPE plans to offer biomanufacturing training similar to the programs provided by BTEC. Among the top universities in Brazil, UPFE offers more than 100 master’s and doctoral programs and enrolls more than 6,000 graduate students. The public university has a total student enrollment of approximately 35,000 and more than 2,000 faculty.
